Kenji had no more class today. One of the many joys when you are in your sixth year, you don't have to take all the classes. And even if he was done with it, the day was still quite young.
After a quick stop at the Great Hall to grab a thing or two to eat on the road, he went outside to the grounds and started walking aimlessly. Soon though he realized his feet brought him in direction of the quidditch stadium. Quite curious since he was not a fan of that wizard sport. In fact, he was a fan of no sport at all. But the pitch was huge, you could stay there without annoying people. Plus when you wanted to be at peace it was also one of the best spots in all Hogwarts.
Kenji congratulated himself for bringing his school bag as he climbed the stairs and looked around for a good spot. In the ravenclaw section, of course. Once he found a place, he sat there, sighing softly. He started gazing at everything around him. No one was there, no practice, no game, no class, nothing at all.
After a moment though he saw a few people. Probably wanderers like him wanting to hang out with friends somewhere they wouldn't be bothered by younger students. Kenji did not care of them. Besides, they were no getting up, they were staying on the field. But a shape caught his attention. A girl, even from his spot he could tell it.
With agility, he took out his sketchbook and started drawing the outlines of this frail silhouette below him. Once he was done with the major traits though, he changed radically of figure. He made a circle around her. People not knowing him could have found it strange, but Kenji loved miniatures and it was what he did with the girl, a small replica of her. A portrait he placed in a golden snitch, for he felt she was the kind to love quidditch - maybe because she was on a quidditch pitch? He then drew an arm and a hand ready to catch that girl snitch. He was so busy in his drawings he forgot about the world around him entirely.

Lily had wandered onto the pitch with her older cousin Rose. She'd soon become bored with the older students conversation though and wandered off to pursue her own amusement. It was a lovely day and she saw a boy sitting by himself in the Ravenclaw section of the bleachers. She thought about it briefly before deciding to go and see what he was up to. After all it had to be more amusing that Rose and her friends talking about what they had gotten on their O.W.L.s at the end of their last year.
Quietly as she could she walked down the row of seats behind him and peaked over his shoulder. She was feeling particularly hyper today and she tended to be more outgoing when she was so. "Hey, that's pretty good." She said, halfway meaning to scare him a bit. It was somewhat cruel of her, but it was lighthearted. And his drawing was good.

Kenji was making some shadow to add textures and relief to the snitch when a single, female voice was heard right behind him. He froze his hand as the voice said her first word. At the end of the sentence, his head was raised. Softly, he turned to look who could have spoken. He found out he needed to turn partly his body to really see the figure behind him and so put down his sketch one moment to be able to face the girl.
She was a gryffindor, no doubt about it with the gold and red tie and the badge on her robe. Getting all he could learn from her outfit, he looked at the face. Young, younger than him surely. And her hair... He frowned one moment and grabbed quickly his sketch. He looked at her and then his sketch a few times. Yes, she was the girl he drew. She didn't seem to have noticed though, or maybe she had? "Thanks." he let out finally, not wanting to seem impolite in front of her. Solitary, freak, boring, weird yes he could be all that, but certainly not impolite.

Lily smiled, deciding not to comment about the drawing being of her. I'm Lily." She said, moving to take the seat next to him. "I couldn't help but notice you were hanging out by yourself up here." She paused, looking back across the pitch. "They're terribly boring today." She added, nodding her head in the direction of her cousin and the other Ravenclaws. The group of them were sitting on the grass near the goalposts. They didn't even seem to notice that Lily had wandered off. Usually they were decently entertaining when she had nothing else to do, but every now and then...
She looked back at Kenji, her red hair catching the sun as she moved. "So, what's your name?" She finally got around to asking. She momentarily wondered if it had been a good idea to have so much sugar during class. She and Hugo had been hiding a giant bag of chocolate frogs under their desk in Charms and munching on them whenever the teacher's back was turned.

Kenji motioned his head to the goalposts to see who Lily was talking about. He saw a bunch of students there. Ravenclaws, he was certain about it. He didn't mention he was also of that house, maybe she noticed, maybe she didn't, either way he didn't want Lily to feel embarrass if she said those people down there were boring because they were ravenclaw. That wouldn't be too nice of him. Instead, he focused on her name. Lily, where did he heard it. Her red hair gave him the answer: Lily Potter, of course!
"I'm Kenji." he answered to her question, looking at her as she was now next to him. There was something about her... he knew her cousin Fred and maybe she was like him, just as hyper, but in the same time, he had the feeling she wasn't that hyper usually. He went through his stuff and took out some candies. "Want some?" he asked, showing her the bag of candies after taking one.

Lily took one of the candies. "Thanks." She figured that he must be at least a year older than her but she didn't ask. "They're not usually so boring," She said, but after saying it she realized that Kenji was a Ravenclaw. "Do you know Rose?" She asked, referencing her sixth year cousin across the pitch. Rose could be a bit on the bookish side at times, but as they were cousins they had learned to get along.
She got along well with pretty much all of her cousins. Of course Hugo was one of her greatest friends, but she also got along well with Andrew and of course Fred. Her female cousins were the ones she tended to butt heads with. Of course in a family as big as theirs there were always going to be spats.

Kenji looked down once again at the ravenclaws. So this was Rose... "Yes, she's in my year." he explained to Lily after she asked him if he knew her. He thought thanks to that to Lily's family. Very huge, with all those Weasleys. Not like his, that was for sure. He was the only child and, as far as he knew, the only wizard in his family. But it never bothered him, he was quite happy alone.
"Is it hard? To be in a big family." he said, still looking in front of him. He turned his head to face Lily. His eyes seemed emotionless but he was still curious to know. "Is it hard?" he repeated.

She thought about that one for a moment, her green eyes caught on Rose, across the field, laughing with her friends. "Sometimes, I guess. She looked back over at Kenji with a smile on her face, her red hair catching the light as she turned. "It's never boring though, I can tell you that. And you always have someone to hang out with or talk to... I can't imagine things being quiet for too long."
"What about your family?" She asked, wondering about the reasons behind the question. She loved her family, and what she said was true there was never a dull moment with the Weasley/Potter tribe. There was always someone to talk to or laugh with. Someone to watch your back, hold you when you were sad. They stuck together, no matter what.

Kenji nodded once to what she said. he tried to picture the scene in his mind. Children, all around the same age. Sure there was life in there. Plus he knew her cousin Fred very well, he was his gullible lab rat for his pranks, never complaining about it.
He looked at Lily as she asked. "I'm the only wizard and the only child." he explained, thinking this simple sentence could sum up his life. The only one. Always. The only child not playing with the others, alone in a corner with a puzzle. The only wizard in a family of muggleborns, the only child since he never heard of cousins.
